In-Person Book Club Session at 2024 Conference

Join us for our very first in-person book club session at the inaugural Women in Chemicals Conference where we will dive into the concepts introduced by Brené Brown in her #1 New York Times Bestselling book Dare to Lead.

Session Summary:  This 75-minute in-person session builds on the success of our virtual Quarterly Book Club.  It will be interactive and engaging, allowing attendees to participate in various activities to spur discussion, put Dare to Lead’s concepts into action, and further understand themselves while connecting with others.  Regardless of if you read Dare to Lead years ago, are currently reading it for the first time, or haven’t read it, all are welcome to join.  Familiarization with the book is helpful but not required to get the most out of this session.  Although the book is called Dare to Lead, this session is open to all roles from entry level to executive leadership.  Everyone can step up and into brave leadership, regardless of their job title!

About Dare to Lead and Brené Brown:

When we dare to lead, we don’t pretend to have the right answers; we stay curious and ask the right questions. We don’t see power as finite and hoard it; we know that power becomes infinite when we share it with others. We don’t avoid difficult conversations and situations; we lean into vulnerability when it’s necessary to do good work.

#1 New York Times bestselling author Brené Brown has spent the past two decades studying the emotions and experiences that give meaning to our lives, and the past seven years working with transformative leaders and teams spanning the globe. She found that leaders in organizations all ask the same question: How do you cultivate braver, more daring leaders, and how do you embed the value of courage in your culture?  In Dare to Lead, Brown uses research, stories, and examples to answer this question.  This book is for anyone who wants to step up and into brave leadership.

If you are looking forward to our in-person Book Club at the Women in Chemicals conference, you’ll love our virtual Quarterly Book Club.  Women in Chemicals hosts a virtual book club for our community to gather, share ideas, and delve into books that focus on personal and professional development. We select a book quarterly to read together and meet once a month on Zoom to discuss the content. If you can’t make the virtual meetings, don’t fret, we also post weekly discussion questions on the WIC Forum.  This quarter, in preparation for the conference session, we are reading Dare to Lead.  Join us to start reading and discussing now!
