Shea Worman

Manager, Integration & Project Management Office

Brenntag

Please meet this week's WOTW, Shea Worman. Shea started in mortgage after she graduated, but after about a year determined that she wanted something different. After using her university resources, she joined Brenntag in 2006 as a marketing assistant. From there, she has held many positions including pricing and account management, product management, sales, business development, and her current position as manager of the integration and project management office. We learned from Shea that her decisions to take on new roles within Brenntag have been a combination of her great support network working with her as well as natural progressions from her prior positions. When asked about advice for those listening in that are earlier in their careers, Shea shared with us the importance of finding our passion and sharing those with our networks. Shea appreciates that there is always something new at Brenntag bringing new challenges, opening the door for new chances to grow. Shea discovered her current position by communicating interest to her networks.

Shea's current position is a result of an acquisition. When asked about the challenges that come with such a large acquisition, she talked about the immense need for great communication. She knows that there are challenges when bringing two companies together that require both trust and culture building. We also talked with Shea about her many roles as manager, mother, wife, and more, and her ability to remain calm and focused. She told us that her ability to maintain such a sturdy composure came with lots of practice and experience, and that she has learned over time that things are going to come and go but if we focus on our true north, everything will be okay.

Shea is also the co-founder of Brenntag's Women in Nutrition Networking forum, a platform for women to focus on their development and leadership skills. When asked about what skills are most relevant for upcoming leaders, Shea highlighted communication, emotional intelligence, change-management, and the ability to work through volatile environments all while maintaining your genuineness. One piece of advice that Shea gave us was the concept of Julie Funt's "Strategic Pause"; this pause is taking a "wedge" of time to refresh, to take a breath and refocus, and to enable yourself to be clear minded. Shea does this by taking a "Shea Day", where she truly steps away from her work, embracing time with family, and allows her self a moment to pause. We closed the interview with Shea reminded us all that we are remarkable, that we have done great things, and we will continue to do great things.
