Introducing to you all this week's WOTW, Chelsea Burlan. Chelsea currently oversees Global Strategic Sourcing and Sustainability Functions at WR Grace. Born in Mumbai, Chelsea was raised in a hard working family, and her hard work sure shines through in the person that she is in our community today. Chelsea studied Computer Science with a dual degree in Chemistry in her undergrad. Chelsea entered operations and procurement after working on the programming side of a project early in her career. In this project she was intrigued by the work with her business clients and her supplier partners. She then moved to the US to pursue her MBA; in this program is where she was able to enter in to her career with WR Grace, first as a supply chain intern!

We talked with Chelsea about her experiences in India working in male dominated industries, and how they compare to that of the US. She made us aware of the fact that there is still much more to do when it comes to reducing opposition for women in geographies outside of the US. When asked about how to support each other in our industry, she says “It's all about connecting with the people you work with" emphasizing here the importance of relationship building.

Chelsea also shared with us what influences her, reminding us that there are moments everyday worth celebrating that can inspire us and cheer us on. When asked to share her advice, Chelsea told us about a children’s book she recently read her 2 year old daughter, "The Little Blue Truck" and how it emphasized the importance of genuine connections and friendships.
