Heather Hall

Account Manager

Harcros Chemicals

Heather is an account manager for Harcros Chemicals for Southeast Georgia and North & Central Florida. Heather originally went to school to become a teacher, and she taught for ten years after graduating. Heather was the first to graduate in her family, and her ultimate goal was to make more money to help her kids, so she went into pharmaceutical sales for three years. She found pharmaceutical sales to lack stability, so she made another jump in her career to chemical sales. Heather is the youngest of six children and she has two children of her own. Heather credits her mother with instilling her with strong Christian values and stated that this impacted every facet of her life, and it specifically taught her the value of a strong work ethic, integrity, honesty and good character. Heather believes that she acquired skillsets through teaching that were transferrable and helpful for her transition and success in sales. Skillsets of particular note included pre-planning, differentiated your approach, and disaggregating data to determine needs.

Heather shared that over the course of her career, she learned that it matters less about what you are doing, but how you do it. Once she found that she could learn and adapt, she felt comfortable stepping outside of her comfort zone and going for opportunities that she may not have been prepared for, but for which she felt she could learn and grow. Throughout these experiences, she learned some of the simple truths about the workplace, such as the importance of staying in your lane, following the chain of command, and always being open to learning. During the four years Heather has been in chemical sales, she has found it easy to adapt to the male-dominated field mostly because of the new way many are approaching sales - it is less about taking people to play golf or drink beer and more about showing up and delivering on service promises.

Lastly, we asked Heather what advice she has for other ambitious women looking to develop a successful careers in the chemical industry, to which she responded, say yes to everything unless you simply do not have the time. Saying yes gives you the opportunity to prove yourself. Some of her podcast recommendations include "She Did It Her Way" with Amanda Boleyn, "The Advanced Selling Podcast" with Bill Caskey and bryan Neale, and "How I Built This" with Guy Raz.
