Managing Burnout

Thank you to all who joined us in our third Generation Female event on Managing Burnout. Special thanks to our panelists, Meg, Beth, Nicole, & Christie, for their insights, courage, and realism. We discussed how burnout shows up for us and what our symptoms of burnout look like, highlighting specifically the point in burnout where we may lose all motivation entirely, while also acknowledging that burnout can be different for everyone. We discussed how burnout can be the result of our leaders showing their teams unrealistic expectations through their own example, and how important it is to be self aware. When asked about tools to help manage burnout, our panelists highlighted identifying their non-negotiables throughout their days, like walking the dog, exercising, or dinner with family. We also talked about the importance of communication and delegation during times of burnout. We discussed the importance of our employers recognizing the impact that burnout can have on their employees, and the need for programs, processes, or resources to help address employee mental, emotional, and physical health. We concluded our panel addressing the most important topic; caring for ourselves. We cannot outsource self care, and it is our job to care for ourselves in order to be effective in our many daily roles.
